Current Heart Points Leaderboard

Our Heart system promotes strong but healthy competition and a sense of belonging. Every student is placed in a Heart with their tutor and tutor group and works alongside students from all year groups to achieve shared goals. Guided by student voice, and supported by Heart Captains and Vice‑Captains, students can earn Heart Points through a wide range of Inter‑Heart events, both sporting and non‑sporting, ensuring there is something for everyone to take part in.

Heart points are also awarded for attendance, positive behaviour points, “proud” stickers and academic achievements such as Seneca Stars. These contribute to a live Heart leaderboard, visible throughout the year, celebrating participation, effort and success. The year concludes with Sports Day, where all points earned throughout the year come together to determine the overall Heart Champions who lift the Heart Cup.

Through our Student Council and Heart system, Bluecoat Beechdale Academy fosters a culture where student voice, leadership, teamwork and responsibility are embedded in everyday school life, ensuring every student has the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact on their school community.

Meaning & Inspiration

Inspired by Herne the Hunter, the antlered figure from English folklore, this Heart embodies the spirit of strength and resilience. Just as Herne stands as a symbol of courage and endurance, the deer of Wollaton Park, Nottingham, echo these qualities. The park has been home to a herd of red and fallow deer since the 16th century, clearly demonstrating their resilience and endurance.

Meaning & Inspiration

Inspired by the Celtic goddess Epona, this Heart reflects Nottingham’s rich history as a hub of trade and travel, where horses were essential for progress and connection. Epona symbolises both courage and kindness, embodying the bravery to face life’s challenges with confidence and the compassion to support others along the way.

Meaning & Inspiration

Inspired by the legendary Isle of Avalon, where King Arthur was taken to heal and find strength, this Heart embodies the power of renewal and transformation. Just as Avalon gave Arthur the strength to rise again, it represents Nottingham’s spirit of growth and innovation. Avalon reminds us that by coming together, we can build something greater than ourselves—creating a place where strength is found in the bonds we share.

Meaning & Inspiration

Inspired by Nottingham’s legendary hero, Robin Hood, this Heart celebrates fairness, justice, and the courage to stand up for what is right. Robin embodies the values of integrity: showing that true leadership is built on honesty, loyalty, and a fierce commitment to others. Just as Robin defended the powerless in the depths of Sherwood Forest, this Heart reminds us of the power of compassion and the strength found in supporting others.

Meaning & Inspiration

Inspired by the Latin name for the River Trent, which flows through the heart of Nottingham, Trisen is a symbol of curiosity and belief. Trisen inspires you to explore new ideas, ask bold questions, and believe in your potential. Like the river that never stops flowing, Trisen reminds us that learning and growth are endless, and with belief in yourself and curiosity to guide you, there’s no limit to what you can achieve

Meaning & Inspiration

Inspired by the Saxons, an ancient people who settled in Nottingham and played a key role in shaping the city’s foundations, this Heart represents the spirit of working together to overcome challenges. Known for their bravery and strength, the Saxons built strong communities, defended their land, and laid the groundwork for the city’s growth. Just as the Saxons did, this Heart encourages you to show courage and unity in everything you do.
