We believe in a reward-first culture, where students’ positive contributions, hard work, and achievements are consistently recognised and celebrated. Teachers will issue a minimum of five positive points per lesson to reward students who meet our expectations. Additionally, a ‘Star of the Lesson’ will be chosen in every class, with that student receiving four positive points.
For exceptional work, students may receive ‘Proud Stickers’, earning them six positive points. Beyond the classroom, Year Leaders, Subject Leads, and Senior Leadership Team members will also recognise student progress and achievement every half term, celebrating those who consistently demonstrate The BBA Way.
Arriving on time to school and lessons is essential for learning and success. When students are late, they disrupt not only their own education but also that of their peers. To reinforce the importance of being on time, lateness to school or lessons will result in an after-school detention. This is the only detention issued under our system—all other sanctions will follow our layered approach (see below).
To create an environment where all students can succeed, we expect every student to:
✅ Arrive on time to lessons, ready to learn.
✅ Wear the correct uniform and have the right equipment.
✅ Show 100% effort – 100% of the time.
✅ Use positive language when speaking to staff and peers.
✅ Make thoughtful contributions to discussions and activities.
✅ Support the learning of others by maintaining focus and respect.
Students will receive a maximum of two reminders if they do not meet these expectations. If the behaviour persists, they will be asked to leave the classroom.
Student behaviour will be categorised into three levels:
- Failure to Adhere to Academy Standards – Includes lateness, incorrect uniform, lack of effort, or not following basic expectations.
- Unacceptable Behaviour – Includes persistent disruption, defiance, or inappropriate language.
- Serious Behaviour – Includes aggression, bullying, or actions that put others at risk.
Sanctions will be issued in accordance with the severity of behaviour and repeated patterns of misconduct. When a student is asked to leave a lesson, they must arrive at Triage within three minutes. Triage is not a sanction, but a place for students to regulate, reflect, and prepare for the next steps. A staff member will assess the situation and issue an appropriate sanction. In some cases, students may also be asked to write a statement after an incident.
🔹 Triage – A space for reflection and preparation, not a punishment. This is staffed by SLT, Year Leaders and SENCo who have holistic knowledge of the students’ needs.
🔹 Reflection – A 24-hour period typically issued following removal from a lesson, where students are not in lessons or with their peers in unstructured times.
🔹 Internal Suspension – A full school day (8:55am – 3:30pm) in a supervised space isolated from the rest of the school population.
🔹 Off-Site Direction – In some cases, students may be placed in another school’s internal suspension for a set period.
🔹 Suspension – Used only as a last resort when all other options have been considered.
